Yellow Brick Road

– intervenção urbana, 2011

Follow the Yellow Brick Road é um projeto que consiste em, antes de tudo, levar as pessoas a lugares maravilhosos. Assim como no filme O Mágico de Oz de 1939, aqui é uma estrada de tijolos amarelos que leva aos objetivos, porém, o objetivo final do projeto são lugares culturalmente relevantes: centros culturais, museus, escolas, monumentos e quaisquer outros pontos de conhecimento.

Esta intervenção, ao contrário da maioria das intervenções urbanas, é feita no chão. Penso em, ocasionalmente, a frase Follow the Yellow Brick Road aparecer em muros para representar apenas um pensamento – o que ainda é uma idéia.

Graficamente, o projeto é simples e composto por dois stencils, o que dá agilidade na hora de aplicar em locais de maior trânsito de pedestres. A “estrada” de tijolos é feita de uma padronagem de retângulos repetidos e sobrepostos. Quando o chão já for feito de pequenos tijolos, a necessidade é só de pintá-los.

Para as crianças, Follow the Yellow Brick Road também pode aparecer em praças e parques onde elas brincam. A tendência será seguir os tijolos mesmo que não entendam o que está escrito, por instinto. A frase sempre aparecerá em inglês, respeitando a original do filme, mas a idéia é que a intervenção siga para várias cidades do mundo. Afinal, todas as cidades têm sua “estrada de tijolos amarelos”.

Follow the

Yellow Brick Road

is a project that consists of, first of all, get people to wonderful places. Just like the movie The Wizard of Oz (1939), here is a yellow brick road that leads to goals, however, the ultimate goal of the project are culturally relevant places: cultural centers, museums, schools, monuments and other points of knowledge.

This intervention, unlike most of the urban interventions, is made on the ground. I think about occasionally, the sentence Follow the

Yellow Brick Road

appears on the walls  to represent only one thought - what is still an idea.

Graphically, the design is simple and consists of two stencils, which gives flexibility in time to apply in places of high pedestrian traffic. The "road" is made from a pattern of repeated and overlapping rectangles. When the ground is already made of small bricks, the need is just to paint them.

For children, Follow the

Yellow Brick Road

may also appear in squares and parks where they play. They´ll follow the bricks even if they do not understand what is written, by instinct. The phrase always appears in English, respecting the original movie, but the idea is that the intervention go to cities around the world. After all, all cities have a "yellow brick road."

How´s the project going

At this moment, I´m cutting the stencils. A stencil is necessary for all the "roads" look like the same: the yellow brick road which takes us all to the most wonderful places of the Earth. For my project, these beautiful places are museums, art galleries, street monuments, places where children can play (just like parks), etc.
And for you, what are your "power places?"

Neste momento, estou cortando os stencils. Um stencil é necessário para que todas as "estradas" pareçam a mesma: a estrada de tijolos amarelos que leva todos nós aos lugares mais maravilhosos do planeta. Para o meu projeto, esses lugares são museus, galerias de arte, monumentos urbanos, lugares onde as crianças podem brincar (como parques), etc.

O Projeto // The Project

Follow the Yellow Brick Road é um projeto de arte urbana ainda no embrião. O nome, claro, vem do filme O Mágico de Oz. Assim como os personagens do filme tinham que seguir pela estrada de tijolos amarelos para chegarem ao reino de Oz, a intervenção também estimulará que quem a veja siga um caminho, que em cada lugar levará a um destino. Galerias, museus, lugares especiais, enfim: a um ponto relevante.
